Will the Wii Bubble burst?
Chris Kohler has written a fantastic insight on the Nintendo Wii and why it wont die anytime soon. More importantly he has provided a break down of the potential gaming markets (Hardcore, Casual, Expanded and Kids) and their console buying habits.
Before blue oceans and innovators’ dilemmas, the “casual gamer” was the guy who played Xbox but wasn’t a game nerd. He’ll play Halo with his buddies for hours. But the new definition of “casual gamer” is your grandma. She loves “Cooking Mama.”
So where are the Nintendo Wii Golfers? Looks like we are the:
2) Casual Gamer
The original “blue ocean” that Sony triumphantly sailed into in the mid-nineties. 18-34 year old males who think games are awesome but only own three of them, and two of those are Grand Theft Auto. Maybe they read IGN and put down preorders for Madden, but that is as dedicated as they get.
That’s where the Nintendo Wii had moved in with its low price and fun pick up and go factor. Where did I put my Playstation?

It’s just like the Nintendo DS. Yeah, the PSP might be flashier and more powerful, but the DS is cheaper, has the innovative controls, and simply has better games.
However, both the PS3 and the PSP seem to have bright futures, with some big titles along the way for each system. However, by the time these big games come out, Nintendo’s lead (assuming they pass the 360 in the console front) might be insurmountable.
